How do I determine my skin type?

Did you know that up to 70 % women use the wrong skincare products just because they don't know their skin type? This is one of the most common problems I encounter in my work as a beautician. So how do you really understand what your skin is like?

To start with, it's the simplest test you can easily do at home.

The first step is to thoroughly cleanse your face in the evening with a mild cleanser. Afterwards, do not use any creams, serums or toners and leave your skin to rest for about 30 minutes. Then, look at your face carefully in the mirror:

  • Dry skin will be slightly tight, there may be stretching, dryness, skin sometimes even burrs.
  • Oily skin will become shiny, especially on the nose, chin and forehead, and enlarged pores may be visible.
  • Combination skin will betray itself with a shine in the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin), while the cheeks will remain drier or even a little rough.
  • Sensitive skin reacts easily to environmental factors - it may redden, feel mild irritation, stretching or swelling.

You can additionally perform a wipe test - press the wipe to the skin of the face after 30 minutes.

  • If you can't see any grease spots on the wipe, your skin is probably dry.
  • If the spots appear only in the T-zone area, the skin is mixed.
  • If the surface of your face leaves marks almost everywhere, your skin is oily.

It's also worth remembering that skin type can change due to seasonality, hormonal changes or even lifestyle changes. So monitor your skin's condition periodically and adapt your routine to your current needs.

Which products should I use for oily, dry, combination and sensitive skin?

Every skin has its own needs. The right skincare can make all the difference to your skin's condition and your well-being. Here are my recommendations by skin type.

Fat skin

Oily skinned women often mistakenly think that their skin doesn't need hydration. In reality, oily skin needs light moisturisation to help balance oil production.

What to look for?

  • Light-textured moisturising serums that don't weigh your skin down.
  • Ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, salicylic acid, which help to control the oiliness of the skin and prevent clogging of pores.
  • Avoid products with heavy oils or alcohol.

EDÉN recommendation:

  • Edén Lactic Acid Serum - ideal for oily skin. It gently exfoliates, removes dead skin cells, reduces the likelihood of clogged pores and renews the skin's surface.

Dry skin

Dry skin loves hydration, nourishing textures and ingredients that strengthen the skin's protective layer.

What to look for?

  • Rich serums, creams or oils with ceramide, hyaluronic acid, natural oils (argan, jojoba, rosehip).
  • Avoid products with alcohol or intensive cleaning agents.

EDÉN recommendation:

Edén Moisturising Facial Serum - specially formulated for dry and dehydrated skin. Enriched with ceramides and snow mushroom extract to intensively moisturise and restore the skin's moisture balance.

Mishri skin

Combination skin likes a balance - it needs both hydration and gentle exfoliation to keep the T-zone clean and balanced and the cheeks sufficiently moisturised.

What to look for?

  • Light moisturising serums with hyaluronic acid.
  • Gentle exfoliating products with lactic acid or mild AHA acids.

EDÉN products for combination skin:

  • Edén Lactic Acid Serum - Use in the evenings, concentrating on the T-zone to gently remove dead cells and restore skin balance.

Sensitive skin

Sensitive skin requires special care - it reacts very quickly to strong ingredients and aggressive care.

For sensitive skin, it is recommended to use as few products as possible, but they must be of high quality and reliable. Try to choose the most natural formulations possible, without strong preservatives, fragrances and dyes.

What to look for?

  • Gentle, soothing serums, creams containing ceramides, aloe vera, oat extract or hyaluronic acid.
  • Avoid strong fragrances, alcohol and acids in high concentrations.

EDÉN recommendation for sensitive skin:

  • Edén Moisturising Facial Serum - enriched with ceramides and snow mushroom polysaccharides, which are extremely soothing and help to strengthen the barrier of sensitive skin

Additional ingredients that will appeal to sensitive skin:

  • Aloe vera extract
  • Oat extract
  • Squalane
  • Bisabolol

Remember:

Your skin's needs may change with the seasons, your lifestyle or even your stage in life.

That's why skincare is a constant journey inward. Listen to your skin, choose the right care for it and let it shine every moment.

Love, Indre, founder of EDÉN.
